'Taking Legal Action'

Most complaints should be dealt with satisfactorily through these procedures. However your Community Health Council (Health & Social Services Council in Northern Ireland or Local Health Board of Scotland), Citizens Advice Bureau or Action for the Victims of Medical Accidents (AMVA) at Bank Chambers, 1 London Road, Forest Hill, London SE23 3TB Tel:0181 291 2793 should be able to give you advice on choosing a solicitor. AVMA also provides help in pursuing complaints and gives support.

In 1995 an NHS Litigation Authority was set up under Section 21 of the NHS Act 1990. The authority administers the Clinical Negligence Scheme for NHS Trusts, ensuring that claims by patients against NHS Trusts are handled sensitively and fairly.
