'Obtaining Free Or Reduced Cost Health Care'

Free or reduced cost medical treatment is available in European Countries (and some other countries with reciprocal arrangements). The treatment covered varies, depending on where you are travelling to, and on the purpose of your visit (See 'Europe: What Treatment Does Form E111 Cover?' and 'Non-European Union Countries')

Before you go abroad make sure you obtain a copy of the Department of Health booklet 'Health advice for travellers (T6)'. This gives details of entitlements to health care abroad, immunisation requirements etc. Copies are available from doctors' surgeries, post offices, travel agents etc, or by phoning Tel: 0800 555 777 any time, free of charge. The information is also updated on Prestel, to which most travel agents have access.
