Many ambulance services already use satellites to track the position and progress of individual vehicles. In Newcastle Upon Tyne, for example, the Northumbria Ambulance Service tracks the position of motorcycle paramedics by satellite so that the control centre is able to despatch the nearest bike when an emergency call comes in.
