'Ambulances: Emergency Transport To The A & E Department'

In an emergency, if you cannot get to the A & E Department yourself and cannot get someone to take you, dial 999 and ask for an ambulance. The Patients Charter sets a national standard for the arrival of an ambulance in response to an emergency call. An ambulance should arrive within 14 minutes in an urban area or 19 minutes in a rural area. In Northern Ireland there are additional 'remote areas' with a standard of 21 minutes. Every emergency ambulance in the country must carry at least one crew member trained in paramedical skills.
