'Patient Organisations'

At a national level there are many organisations working to improve access to information for patients. Most of these deal with specific health problems but there are two important generalist patient organisations:

  • The Patients Association, PO Box 935, Harrow, Middx HA1 3YJ Tel:0181 423 8999 was established in 1963. It works towards giving patients a collective voice at government level, to professional bodies and in the media. It also runs an information service by telephone and letter.

  • The College of Health, St Margaret's House, 21 Old Ford Road, London E2 9PL Tel:0181 983 1225; was established in 1983 to represent the interests of users of the health service. It runs the National Waiting List Helpline Tel: 0181 983 1133.
