Will Hutton

The NHS 50 anniversary lectures 'Shaping the NHS' got off to a flying start with the first in the series by Observer editor, Will Hutton at Canary Wharf in London in March.

Taking his topic of economics and the NHS, he stimulated some lively debate among the audience - talking frankly about his views of the performance of the NHS over the past 50 years and its future financially.

Mr Hutton's lecture is followed in April by Sir Graham Hart KCB on the influences of government and politics on the NHS. For details on all the anniversary lectures click here.

The lecture series, sponsored by Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, examines a range of topics which focus on factors shaping and influencing the NHS over the last 50 years - from finance and economics to clinical advance and patient power - and into the future.
