This innovative idea - to name a new breed of rose after the NHS in its anniversary year - came from Northwest Anglia Health Authority.
As they are based in the rose growing part of the county, the team at the Health Authority, led by Hilary Spiers, thought it would be apt to name a new rose in honour of the NHS.
Unfortunately, it takes a full ten years to breed a 'fully customised' rose, but Hilary worked with leading grower Philip Harkness, from internationally-renowned rose breeders and growers "Harkness", of Hitchin, to find the right rose for the NHS.
And the colour of the NHS Rose? Crisp bedlinen white, of course!
If you want more details on how to get the rose, contact Hilary on 01733 882288.
