New uniforms for state-registered nurses are approved by the General Nursing Council. A nurse's complete wardrobe consists of a heavyweight coat in navy blue, a lightweight coat, a raincoat, a costume worn with an approve blouse, hat, beret or cap, leather shoulder bag, navy blue, black or chamois gloves, navy blue or black shoes and coloured stockings. Navy blue is the colour chosen for outdoor wear while Cambridge blue is chosen for indoor wear.
