Description of Health Service

Health policies and targets on expenditure levels of counties and municipalities are the responsibility of central authorities. Management and financing of health services are the responsibility of politically elected county and municipal councils. County authorities are responsible for hospital services and general and specialist medical practitioners. Health in Denmark is financed mostly by allocations from general tax revenues which covers about 85 per cent of the expenditure. The remainign 15 per cent is financed by patient payments, mainly for medicines and dentistry.
