'Dental Hygienist & Dental Therapist'

'What do they do?' Both these professions carry our work in oral hygiene. This means not only cleaning patients' mouths but also playing an educational role in the prevention of tooth decay and gum disease.

'Educational and age requirements' Five GCSE (including one science) or equivalent. Minimum age of entry 18 years, with at least two years' experience as a Dental Nurse.

'Training and qualifications' Full-time course of two years leading to Diploma in Dental Hygiene. Full-time course of 27 months at Royal London Hospital, followed by further modules (therapist).
