'Midwife'

'What do they do?' Midwives offer care, advice and planning for women and their families during and after pregnancy.

'Educational and age requirements' Pre-registration: Normal minimum age of entry 17.5 years of age with five GCSE passes or equivalent at grade C or above including English language or English literature and a science subject.

Post-registration: Registered General Nurse (RGN) or Registered Nurse (Adult).

'Training and qualifications' Pre-registration: Programme takes a minimum of three years.

Post-registration: Course lasts a year and a half leading to qualification as a Registered Midwife.
